Southport Macmillan Centre Newsletter Summer 2023
Southport Macmillan Centre Newsletter
Welcome to the summer edition of our Newsletter which we hope will keep you all up to date with new developments at the Centre.
We’ve had a busy few months here at the Centre which is just the way we like it but there’s plenty more to look forward to over the summer months….
Latest News!
- Our lovely social prescribing link worker Louise has moved on to pastures new to manage the Macmillan service in West Lancashire so we’re wishing her the very best and know she’ll be absolutely fabulous in her new role.
- We’ve welcomed a new member into the team - Steve who will be working alongside us as a social prescriber but also getting together a programme of physical activity groups to help keep everyone as fit and healthy as possible!
- In April we had our first Health & Wellbeing Event of the year which was well attended by new and existing service users. We had a fantastic turn out of local organisations and the feedback we got from both stallholders and visitors was really positive. Our next Health & Wellbeing Event is on Tuesday 11th July from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, again at Southport College.
- Our Spring Fayre took place on 12th May and we’re delighted to announce that we raised just over £500 all of which will go to support people affected by cancer. The next fundraising event organised and run by the Centre will be the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday September 29th but more news about that next time.
- Our wonderful neighbours at Southport Auto Centre are holding their annual fundraiser on Saturday 24th June from 10am to 4pm – bring the family down to Wright Street (closed to traffic) for a great day of classic cars & motorbikes, BBQ, raffle …..and the Centre will be open too.

This month we’re going to feature our lovely ‘Feeling Young & Fabulous’ group which meet around the last Tuesday of the month in the evening. From Centre quizzes, Ten pin bowling and meals out, we aim to arrange different activities to keep us on our toes! If you’d like to come along, call the Centre for details of our next meet-up
Have you had breast cancer and would like to join up with others that have had a shared experience?
We’re currently looking into setting a new group up so if you’re interested, give us a ring on 01704 533024……it’ll be interesting and supportive with a lot of fun thrown into the mix – all ages welcome.
A poem for you…..
There may be days when you are certain you are over it…
And there may be days you feel everything all over again
And there might be days where you are somewhere in between and all you want to do is to get past this.
But no matter the day, despite the noise of it all there will still be songs to listen to
And when you don’t feel like singing and don’t feel like laughing, there will still be rhythms to breathe
And not because of anything you’ve done but because of the light
working deeply in you
Morgan Harper Nichols
